L: Sushi rolls, ham and cheese roll and fruitD: Margarita Pizza with olives, just a pizza, rating 7.0. Had a break from beers, needed it.

Day 1 Amsterdam
Day 1 Amsterdam
B: Coffee and croissant.
L: Weather starting to cool down, did a walking tour of Amsterdam, so had a hearty Pea and
Ham soup (Dutch style) served with rye and crusty bread.

Day 2 Amsterdam
B: Coffee and fruit bun.
L: Train trip to The
Hague so had Ham and cheese roll and a sausage roll and a fruit bun from the
station bakery. Also got back in time to take in the Heineken brewery tour, well
worth the 15 euro, and the sampler and 2 really cold large Heinekens went down
a treat, still a top beer, rating 8.5.

D: Went to the Argentinian restaurant downstairs from the
Royal Hotel where we were staying, and had the Argentinian Rump steak with
chips and salad bar, topped off with the owner’s special chilli sauce which was very hot and a great accompaniment. The
steak was so tender and tasty, a butter knife would have cut it, the best steak
I have had in many a year, a definite converter to Argentinian meats, rating
9.0. Washed down with 2 icy cold Heinekens of course, rating 8.5 again.
Day 3 Amsterdam
B: At Hotel Royal, omelette with bacon, OJ and coffee.
L: Ham and salad roll, followed by a couple of cold
Heinekens, rating 8.5.
D: Roast Duck and noodle soup, spiced up with chilli sauce,
a real winner, rating 8.5. Leaving Holland tomorrow so had to try a warm waffle
with strawberries and cream and dusting of icing sugar, a great desert, rating
8.5.

B: Ham and cheese toasted sandwich.
L: Ham, salad and egg roll, followed by a chocolate muffin.
D: We were visiting
West Kilbride, about 40 minutes drive west of Glasgow, near the mouth of the
River Clyde, it was rainy, windy and cold, our hostess, Lorraine had graciously
cooked a hearty Irish Stew, complete with vegetables and served with fresh
baked Irish soda bread, a great change to have a home cooked meal, rating
8.0. I also sampled a couple of
Budweiser beers which went down well with the stew, rating 7.5.
Day 5 Glasgow
B: OJ, Tea and Toast.
L: Went to Falkirk wheel, where we had lunch of Lentil soup
with crusty bread, followed by fresh baked banana and chocolate chip scones and
a good coffee, very enjoyable lunch, rating 8.0.

D: Home- made spaghetti bolognaise and salad, rating 7.5
washed down with a couple more Budweiser beers, rating 7.5.
Day 6 Glasgow
B: OJ, Tea and toast.
L: Visited lovely Loch Lomond, where I had lunch of Lentil
soup with brown bread, followed by fresh baked scones with jam and cream and a
good coffee, very enjoyable lunch, rating 8.0. Lentil soup 2 days in a row had the obvious effect........., I could have contributed to Scottish energy needs.

D: Visited Marks and Spencer, department store, who had a
special of a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for 10 quid, I passed on the
wine and decided to try a couple of Czech Lager beers. Dinner was baked
Chicken, ham and cheese filo pastries, with vegetables, a lovely meal, and a cheese selection, rating
8.0, The beers, 2 more buds, rating 7.5, and the Czech lager which is custom made for M&S,
rating 8.0.
B: OJ, Tea and Toast.
L: Went in to Glasgow for the day, and for a change decided
to try a Mexican chain restaurant, where I had chilli con carne, which was nice
spicy and hot, followed by a bean and chipotle soup, which again was very spicy
and tasty, a good change, rating 7.5.
D: Lorraine had additional guests visiting, Mary (a
long-time friend from Ireland) and her husband, Jean Pierre from France, so we
had a great dinner, starting with smoked salmon and salad, home- made lasagne,
salad and cheese selection, topped off with fresh strawberry tartlets, a real
home cooked treat and charming company to boot, rating 8.0. The beers, I tried
were a couple more Czech lagers, rating 8.0, and decided to try one of the home
beers, a Tennents’ lager, which was a good drop, rating 8.0.
Day 1 Glasgow
B: OJ, Tea and Toast.
L: Went to the local pub and tried the 10 quid 2 course menu,
firstly a delicious cream of vegetable soup, followed by crumbed haddock, hand
cut chips and peas, good solid Scottish fare, rating 7.5. I felt obliged to try
the lager on tap which was Carlsberg, went down a treat, rating 8.0.

D: Chicken korma, rice and naan bread, cheese selection and
salad, this was followed by home-made apple pie and cream, another great meal,
rating 8.0. The beers, I tried were a couple more Czech lagers, rating 8.0, and
decided to try one of the home beers, a Tennents’ lager, which was a good drop,
rating 8.0.
