Bangkok China Hong Kong


Day 6 Bangkok to Beijing

B: Eggs and toast, tea.

L: Went via Singapore, and had access to Qantas Club Lounge, for a couple of hours, it was a refreshing change, lots of aussies, free unlimited bar, western style snacks/food.

D: Plane food beef stew pasta with carrot and bok choy, just a meal, rating, 6.5.

Day 7 Beijing

B: Egg, Ham toast and coffee

L: Cheese pizza at Beijing Pizza Hut franchise, which also served a plethora of chinese meal options as well as standard Pizza Hut fare. As far as the cheese pizza went, it was thick crust and well cooked, and a pleasant enough change from SE Asia diet, rating 7.0






 
D: Group  dinner,  buffet banquet, plenty of fresh food and a good variety, rating 7.5. Tsing Tsao beer, 4.0%, rating 7.0

Week 28 Day 1 Beijing

B: Egg ham, toast and coffee.

L: Spicy beef noodle soup, not a bad soup, rating 7.5.

 

D: Snacks, visited famed Chinese acrobat show, managed to have Tsing Tsao beer, rating 7.0

Day 2 Jinshan

L: Fruit and snacks

D: Guesthouse banquet, rating 7.0

 

 

 
Day 3 Bus to Beijing and O/N train to X’ian

B: Rice porridge (congee) coffee and roti bread style pancakes.

L: Visited one of the oldest Peking Duck restaurants in Beijing, speciality, of course Peking Duck pancakes, which is a whole duck (which takes 2 days to prepare) being expertly sliced into 180 pieces   served with a variety of other Chinese dishes including, beef stir fry, sweet and sour pork, pork and mushroom dish, eggplant vego dish, steamed rice and of course the duck bone soup. It was collectively a huge meal with the clear highlight being the duck, rating 8.5.

 

D: Travel on overnight train after such a big lunch it was fruit and snacks.

Day 4 X’ian

B: Snacks and fruit.

L: Chilli chicken wing followed by a tomato style egg noodle dish.

D: Steamed dumplings specialty restaurant…

Day 5 X’ian

B: Fruit and snacks.

L: Visited Terracotta warriors site, which has many restaurants .local and fast food KFC, Subway, went to a local place first a ordered a roast pork roll, the roll and pork were both cold and very disappointing, rating 5.0, went next door to Chinese fast food chicken store had cumin coated chicken fillets and chips, a slight improvement, rating 6.5.

 

D: Visited a 24 hour Chinese fast food style restaurant and ordered the steak and black pepper sauce and rice, which was quite tasty

Day 6 Shaolin

B: Fruit and snacks.

L: Fruit and snacks

D: Shaolin guesthouse banquet

Day 7 O/N Train to Guillin

B: Fruit and snacks.

L: Visited Walmart, where believe it or not, they had a fast food kitchen, so I had stir fried noodle with vegetables and a good dose of chill and cumin, very tasty, rating 7.5.

D: Ordered a large serve of the above so I had stir fried noodle with vegetables and a good dose of chill and cumin, very tasty, rating 7.5.

Week  29 Day 1 Yangshou

B:

L: Xao Hot and Spicy chicken with rice, rating 7.5

D: Plate of chips

Day 2 Yangshou

B:

L: Village banquet

D: Bar b q pork with honey and stir fried vegetables and rice, a reasonable dish, rating 7.0.

 

Day 3 Longji

B: Green tea fruit and snacks

 
L: Countryside hotel café banquet.

 
D: Not feeling 100%, so I had a western meal, chicken burger with chips, disappointingly, it was a prefab frozen crumbed chicken fillet, served with tomato and cucumber as salad, rating 5.0

Day 4 Longji

B: Banana pancake with coffee.

L: Bamboo rice with chicken and vegetable, a very plain flavourless meal, rating 5.0.

 
D: Pork and vegetable noodle soup, spiced up with a good dose of chilli paste, rating 7.0.

Day 5 Bus to Guillin and O/N Train to Shenzen

B: Snacks and fruit.

L: Pork and vegetable noodle soup spiced up with a good dose of chilli paste, rating 7.0

D: Chicken fillet burger, with chips and a drink at Do and Me, fast food Chinese style, rating 5.5

Day 6 Hong Kong

B: Fruit

L: Snacks on train

D: Baked pork chop in a tomato gravy, on a bed of rice with vegetables, a simple dish, rating 7.0

Day 7 Hong Kong

L: Chicken and cheese baguette.

D: Seafood banquet, chicken and corn soup, salt and pepper squid, chilli tempura prawns, whole steamed fish, bok choy, fried rice, ginger scallops with glass noodles, after visiting the fresh seafood stalls in the village enroute to the restaurant, the meal more than matched expectations, rating 8.5. Also sampled an Ice Blue beer, which was a bitter ale, rating 6.5, switched to Vodka and lemonade as drink of choice for balance of harbour cruise,

Week 30 Day 1 Hong Kong

B: Cappuccino

L: Red Curry with Smoked Duck Breast and vegetables, eggplants, potato and carrots with rice and fresh chilli, a very tasty dish, rating 8.0, served with a Singha beer rating 7.5. Preceded by a couple of pints of Carlsberg lager draughts, went down a treat, rating 8.0. 

D: Visited a Vietnamese restaurant, and had an old favourite Pho (Beef) Noodle soup, tasty broth, bok choy, coriander, another tasty simple dish rating 7.5.

Day 2 Hong Kong

B:

L: Visited Macau, to try our luck at the Casino, went to the ???? restaurant for lunch, which was Prawn Wonton Egg Noodle Soup, real disappointment, rating 3.5.

D: McDonalds Chicken Fillet Burger chips, Coke shame…

 

 

 

 

Day 3 Hong Kong

B: Bacon & Egg Muffin, Cappuccino. Free Wi Fi

L: Andy and Rayna took us to a really nice restaurant , see photos, a great meal, rating 8.0.

 

D: There was little doubt  what my last meal on the adventure would  be especially in an Asian city, so it was roast duck with rice, chilli sauce ,greens, and this was a fairly good variety, rating 7.5.,:

Day 4 Hong Kong O/N Flight to Cairns/Brisbane

L; Went to street restaurant and had groper fillet, thai fishcakes, laksa noodle soup with bok choy a very nice last lunch in Hong Kong, rating 7.5.

D: On Cathay Pacific, Beef with rice carrots peas, average plane food, rating 5.0

Day 5 Flight Brisbane to Cairns

B: Yoghurt and fruit.
