Rome to Venice

Week 21 Zurich to Rome
Day 1

B: Iced Coffee and a Ham roll for the train trip.
L: Snacks on the train.
D: Found a small restaurant near where we were staying, offering a 3 course meal for 15 euro, so I sampled the Bruschetta, toasted bread, with tomato, rocket and parmesan cheese, a lasagne, which was a bit dry for my liking, followed by a vanilla ice cream yoghurt with chocolate topping. Not quite the Italian meal I had hoped for but it was still ok, rating 7.5.

D: Went for a take away meal, chicken and tomato flavoured rice croquettes and a Tomato buffalo mozzarella cheese and rocket pizza, both were just ok, rating 7.0, followed by a supermarket bought Gelati, lemon and strawberry, which was superb, rating 8.5.

Day 6 Naples to Rome

B: Buffet at Hotel Tiempo.
L: Mortadello and cheese Panini..
D: Preceded dinner with 4 very cold large Heineken beers, as I don’t like any Italian beers, and after a hot day at Pompeii, the previous day and a train trip, I needed rehydrating, just what Dr Tony ordered, rating 8.5. For dinner we found another 15 euro offering so gave Rome another chance, and this time had, Bruschetta, this time with buffalo mozzarella and basil, followed by a decent Gnocchi with bolognaise sauce, desert was again a supermarket gelati, pistachio and chocolate, topped off a good meal well, rating 8.0.

 Day 2 Bologna

B: Buffet at Hotel
L: Cracker biscuits.
D: Dined at the restaurant, again 3 course meal for 15 euro, entrĂ©e was a polenta with zucchini in it, topped with a tomato, basil and Spanish onion sauce and a twist of lemon juice, for my main meal I had the grilled fish which was 2 generous white flesh fillets cooked to perfection, served with a combination of salad and veges, i.e. lettuce, cucumber,  tomato, Spanish onion, and zucchini and a grilled peach and pear, it was an unusual combination but it worked a treat. Desert was the buffet part, and the choice was huge, settled on chocolate mousse, panacotta with strawberries, and fruit salad. This meal put food in Italy back on the pedestal it deserves, rating 8.5-9.0.  The meal was also served with a splendid white wine which the waiter conveniently left the bottle at our table, instead of just a glass, must have been because we are Aussies and told him how good our wines are.
