Day 3 Lisbon

L: Went to a small café in central Lisbon, as it’s a port city and just 20klma from the coast, ordered, grilled Sole/Flounder with rice and salad, fish was fresh and tasted great, rating 8.0, cost 8euro, $10.

D: At home stay, toasted tune cheese and tomato sandwiches.
Day 4 Lisbon
B: OJ, Coffee and banana toast
L: Found a food court at a huge shopping complex, sampled duck and rice soup, which was just ok, rating 6.5, and grilled fish with tomato potatoes, too dry, ordinary, rating 6.0. The only saving feature was a nice barista coffee and a traditional Portuguese custard tart, rating 7.5.D: Went to the local pub/bar, tried a few of the local beer, Sagres, which is a lager, alcohol content 5.2%, went down well, rating 7.5. For dinner tried the grilled sardines, with salad and potatoes, the sardines were basted in olive oil and a little coarse salt, and were delicious, rating 8.0.

Day 5 Lisbon
B: Toast, OJ and Coffee.
L: Went for day trip to Cascias beach, about 30 minutes outside Lisbon, bought a Salmon and camembert pannini, and a cheese roll, fruit at the supermarket at the station, again sampled a nice coffee and custard tart, rating 7.5. Also tried Super Bock local beer, it’s a bitter ale, so not my favourite, rating 6.0.D: Went back to a local pub, tried a Pot roast pork with potatoes and rice, quite pleasant, rating 7.0, washed down with a couple more Sagres, rating 7.5.

Day 6 Lisbon
B: Toast, coffe and OJ.
L: First complete vegetarian meal I can remember having on the trip to date, vegetable soup with crusty bread, rating 7.5, and a fresh garden salad with dressing, rating 7.5. D: Tried another batch of the grilled sardines at the local, cause the service was so good and the beers always cold, and because I had enjoyed the first batch so much, again served with potatoes and salad, rating 8.0, washed down with a few more Sagres, rating 7.5.

Day 7 Lisbon
B: OJ, Coffee and cheese roll.
L: Went up to a castle in Lisbon for a look and found a little restaurant with live fadoo music doing a 3 course meal for 12 euro, $15, so I sampled the vegetable soup, salted cod fish stew, which was reconstituted cod, tomato onion, capsicum, garlic, paprika, based on the vegetable/spice stock not the fish, served with whole baby potatoes, not normally a fish soup/stew fan but this was very tasty, crusty bread and a fresh home- made fruit salad, a very enjoyable meal, rating 8.0.D: After the big lunch, just had chorizo, cheese, olives and cracker biscuits.
Week 16 Day 1 Lisbon
B: Coffee and shared a croissant and Portuguese custard tart.

L: Walking around Lisbon trying to find a cool spot in the 40+ heat, we were given a flyer to an Indian restaurant buffet lunch for 6.5 euro, given Portugals' Vasco de Gama “discovered” India, and the long standing involvement between the 2 countries had to give it a try. The menu included. samosas, vegetable patties, chutneys, Butter chicken, beef vindaloo, lamb korma, 2 styles of rice, samosas, and ultra –sweet cakes and an orange and sesame cake , overall a 7.5 rating.
