Granada and Malaga

Day 2 Madrid to Granada via Madrid

B: OJ, toast, coffee, pastries on Renfe train.
L: Had time to go back to the Ham Museum in Madrid, still had their 1 euro promo going, so again I tried 2 parma ham rolls, 3 Amstel beers, and still the best marinated olives in Europe to date, the bill with a coffee and roll for Liz, 6 euro, gotta like that, the whole package rating 8.5. It is now time to officially declare the Jamon Museum in Madrid the best value food and drink promo in the whole of western Europe.

D: Snacks on train.

Day 3 Granada

B: Buffet breakfast at Don Juan Hotel, included, OJ, Cereal, pastries, fresh fruit, pineapple, honeydew melon, kiwi fruit.

Chorizo & chips, bacon, cheese & lettuce roll
tapas Estrella special beer, fresh Sangria

Potato Salad with tuna and onion tapas
L: Pate on fresh baguette, followed by our first visit to a Granada Tapas bar, where you get a free tapas with each drink, so started with a couple of Estrella Special beers, not a bad drop, rating 7.5.  Its a very simple principle the more you drink the more food they give you. The tapas provided were chorizo and chips, potato salad with tuna and onion both served with sliced bread, with a bacon, cheese and lettuce roll, rating 7.5, a good introduction to tapas Granada style. Liz had a couple of freshly made Sangrias, total cost 13.4 euro.
Chorizo and Blood Sausage Rolls & Chips tapas

D: We opted for a late 10.45 dinner and decided to have a more formal meal, I sampled a grilled pork fillet with home-made chips and a sauce/gravy which had sultanas, pine nuts and white beans, rating 8.0, again sampled the Estrella special beers, rating 7.5.

Melt in the mouth Calamari and Parma
Ham & tomato relish roll, chips, tapas

Day 4 Granada

B: Buffet breakfast at the Don Juan hotel again.
L: Had our laundry done at a nearby Laundromat, so we visited a local bar, tried the Cruzcampo beers, rating 7.0, had some olives, potato chips and peppers deep fried as well as chicken legs and chips, the tapas were a  bit greasy, rating 6.0.

Estrella Special (Normal Pint size)
and Freshly prepared Sangria

D: Visited another tapas bar, where Estrella special was the beer of the day, had 3 normal sized beers and then saw they had a Bota (boot) 800ml special for 3 euro, so for quality control purposes, had to sample, again a lager and a decent beer served in really cold glasses, rating 8.0 on this occasion. For the food, we tried on the house, parma ham and tomato relish roll, calamari on a bed of lettuce, truly tender and tasty, Liz tried chorizo on a roll and a blood sausage and chips, overall the taste and quality was good, rating 8.0.

D: Found a Belgian beer bar, which had 6 varieties of beers, including Stella Artois, of which I sampled a couple, rating 8.0.  Lizzie had a cherry wheat beer which she rated an 8.5, and a "Monogzo" Banana beer, rating 5.0, Liz added an extra .5 because the beer was served in a half a coconut shell.  Too sweet to be called a Beer.

For food we tried a mixed plate of parma ham, tasty cheese and chorizo served with bread sticks, rating 7.5. I also spotted a Taco Bell store, as I wasn’t full, tried a chicken burrito, rating 7.0.
