Boston, MA

Day 5: Atlantic City to Boston on the dog again.

B: Fruit, nuts and crackers.
L: Fruit, nuts and crackers.
D: Skipped dinner, Lizzie was not well on the bus trip and her heaving, made me lose my appetite, not that it did me any harm to skip a meal after the cumulative overeating in the U.S.A.

Day 6 Boston

B: Tea
L: Visited Al’s Diner and selected their 9” special sub, Prosciutto. Mozzarella, tomato and fresh basil, on a fresh crusty roll, with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, definitely the best sub/roll of the U.S.A to date, rating 8.0, followed by a glazed dunking donut.
Al's Cafe, State Street, Boston
Went to 1 of the oldest pubs in Boston, the Bell in Hand, for an afternoon drink, had a Samuel Adams Boston Lager pint, and realised just how Americans can ruin any beer, serve the beer at room temperature in glass that has been sitting on the bar, on a 30 degree day, waiting for the next victim (drinker) to consume. I had tried Samuel Adams Boston Lager before and it is not a bad beer, but on this occasion rating just a 6.5. Lizzie found Angry Orchard cider again, and had a pint with ice to keep it cool and refreshing, rating 9.0.

D: Went to Chinatown to celebrate Lizzie’s birthday, the birthday girl had  beef noodle soup, and I tried a spicy salt and pepper pork chop, which was quite tasty (for a change from duck/quail) with steamed rice, rating 7.5.

Day 7 Boston

B: Tea
Went to Paul Revere House, and the well proportioned(fat) female bus driver  the pastry shops nearby, in fact she recommended 3 shops, but we visited Mike's Pastry Shop, and sampled pistaccio (cream filled) cannoli, Lizzie had a profiterole, very rich but a delicious morsel, rating 8.0.

The 4 steps towards eating Mike's pastries.
Step 1.

Step 2.

Step 3.

Step 4.
L: Bowl of chilli beef soup, really more like chilli con carne and fresh crusty bread roll, rating 7.5.
D: In Boston, so we had to try Lobster, went to an Irish/Mexican pub called Jose McIntyre's and had a boiled Lobster served with melted butter and fresh garden salad, a very tasty morsel, a bit light on meat, could have easily had a 2nd, to fill the hunger gap, rating 8.0.

Week 12

Day 1 Boston
B: Tea and porridge

It’s really a boutique brewery, as their commercial production is done in large breweries in Pennsylvania and Ohio. The Boston facility is where they make their boutique beers, and have limited output capacity. We got to try 4 varieties, Boston Lager, Boston Summer Ale, Boston Red, and Boston Cherry Wheat, only 7 oz samplers, but ok, my favourite is the Lager, met another couple Matt a soccer mad Englishman, (Man U fan to boot) and his lovely American wife Lindsay on the tour and we decided to go to the nearby Doyles drinking establishment (they get preferential supply of all Samuel Adams products), where we sampled a few more of the product on a very pleasant afternoon.

Quality Control - Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat

L: Prime Rib filletsandwich and chips, good beer drinking chow, rating 8.0, SA products for the day also got an 8.0.

D: Once again the old fall back, Margarita Pizza, this version, mozzarella, tomato and oregano, rating 7.5, for those who haven’t gleaned it yet I am a less is better man when it comes to Pizza.
