Food and Drinks Spain and Portugal

An update to my food and drinks blog Spain and Portugal

Firstly, apologies for my delay in posting.
After 2 years of hard work I simply needed a couple of weeks to re humanize and not have deadlines (self - imposed or otherwise) and enjoy a real holiday not a 9 month adventure like 2012.
I won’t bore folks with the minutia of every meal and drink, for a couple of reasons, firstly we are staying in houses and apartments this holiday therefore breakfasts are pretty standard and secondly life and food and drinks in Spain and Portugal are so varied and enjoyable.
We have now had 2 weeks of hols and I have a plethora of photos and yarns to share.
I won’t bother sharing anything other than a photo about airline food, it’s still a 2 (only just) and I don’t drink alcohol on long distance flights as it takes too long to recover.

After arriving in Madrid and going for a feed at 11.00 pm on a Sunday night our choices were fairly limited so we had a choice of Ginos Pizza and Pasta or Ginos Pizza and Pasta, the good part was they had a good beer from previous experience  Mahous and I had a basic pizza Ham and Cheese thin, rating a 7.0.

Visiting an old friend Museo de Jamon (the Ham Museum in Madrid), inflation has seen the price rise to 2 Euro for a frosty cold one and a fresh crusty Jamon roll, the price rise has not affected custom it was chockers, and there are 3 sites in Madrid, we will be revisiting during our last few days in Madrid at the end of the trip.

Tapas snacks in a local Madrid bar with a nice cool Mahou ale.
We then tried and viewed a variety of foods and venues which supplied the following foods.

Yes that is fresh fruit to ensure that we get our regular dose of fibre- its stone fruit season over here.
To our shock and horror we found that Cascais a beachside town outside Lisbon had a 4 day craft beer festival including various foods and live music including a couple of cover bands 2U, and Amy Whinehouse happening during our stay, as the only fair thing a Food & Drinks quality control officer could do I managed to visit each day and sample some wares. I will declare that I did develop a first names basis relationship with a number of suppliers including Rod who had the best lager in the joint hands down.

The carne (meat lovers) plate, spit roasted pork, pork ribs, chorizo and blood sausage it tasted as good as it looked, it was an 8.0.

Fellow quality control officers managing to perform our arduous duties in difficult circumstances, its after 9.00pm no penalty rates or overtime here.

The offerings at tapas bars in Santiago de Compostella

Delicious polpo (octopus) with paprika, olive oil and fresh bread, it was so tender mmmm an 8.5.

The bar b q offerings at our local bar in SDC before and after, definitely an 8.0, with the ice cold Mahou stubbies.
